This vintage champagne bucket is marked with the initials "P&O" of The Peninsular & Orient Navigation Company. P&O was a British shipping line founded in the mid 1800's to deliver mail to India and East Asia. Later, it became one of the most glamorous ocean liner companies in the world.

This handsome piece, circa 1930's, was made by renowned Mappin & Webb Silversmiths.  A true collector's piece. The interior of bucket is in its original condition and the exterior, re-plated in pure silver in London for Hôtel, sports the patina of its storied past. Perfectly imperfect authenticity from its life aboard ship and many ocean crossings.

Imagine the clink of champagne glasses in the First Class dining rooms, the background "sound track" of animated conversation, laughter and dance music as white-gloved waiters served chilled champagne from this bucket aboard ship.

When not in use for entertaining, we love champagne buckets filled with a potted plant (hydrangea, fern, topiary) or bunches of fresh blooms.

The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
